(Take a few minutes to capture these in your workbook/notebook.)

1. What are your top two reasons when you choose to disengage from a conversation that includes conflict or has the risk of conflict?

2. Why did you choose these for yourself?

3. What is one past experience that has impacted how you feel about engaging?

Scenario:

Sam just had an unexpected and difficult interaction with a board member. He knows there is a larger conversation that should occur, but his schedule is absolutely packed for the next 3 weeks. He is also worried that if this person gets upset, there could be negative financial implications. In the past, conversations like this never go well, especially with people like this. Discussion:

5. With a trusted peer, share your responses to questions 1, 2 and 3.
